Calendula

Calendula
The comfort botanical. Loved for calm, cared-for skin.

Gentle by nature. Long trusted.

With its unmistakable golden flowers, Calendula has been used for generations in preparations made to soothe, soften and care for the skin.

Its place in modern skincare is equally straightforward. Calendula turns up in everything from everyday moisturisers to rich balms and body care; usually when comfort matters more than complication.

Sometimes gentle is exactly the point.

What is Calendula?

Calendula (Calendula officinalis) is a flowering plant in the daisy family, recognisable by its vibrant yellow and orange flowers.

Extracts are typically made from the flower heads, which contain naturally occurring plant compounds including flavonoids, triterpenoids and carotenoids.

Why is it used in skincare?

Calendula is valued for its soothing and conditioning properties, making it particularly useful in formulas intended to help keep skin feeling soft and comfortable.

You'll often see it in products made for sensitive-feeling skin, as well as richer formulas used when dryness or everyday exposure has left skin wanting a little extra care.

You'll often find Calendula in

• Moisturisers

• Balms

• Facial oils

• Body lotions and creams

• Hand creams

• Gentle cleansers

• Baby and family skincare

Pairs beautifully with

• Jojoba Oil

• Shea Butter

• Chamomile

• Oat

• Vitamin E

Good to know

Calendula is also known as pot marigold, although it isn't the same plant as the ornamental marigolds commonly found in gardens.

And while the ingredient has an impressive history, the name on the label only tells part of the story. The type of extract, how much is used and everything surrounding it in the formula matter too.

One ingredient never does all the work.
